ipad day in Room 204

We got to use the ipads to explore math facts, map skills, spelling, and music today! What a great opportunity for all of us to learn and share what we know. The kids are instant experts! Thanks MSMS for sharing your ipads with us.

Engineers Galore!

The students have been working in teams to build 3 different structures. These included a house for our MA State dog, the Boston Terrier, a bridge, and a habitat for a selected animal. Some of the problem solving the students were involved in including making structures that could support a dog without using anything but index cards and scissors. Students learned which shapes were the strongest support beams. They also challenged themselves to build working bridges with matchbox cars. Finally their habitats allowed them to combine thier learning and create a variety of homes. Some measured 20inches tall! Great teamwork. We look forward to seeing the projects from home that conclude our study on Engineering. Thanks to the people at the Boston Museum of Science for their ideas and support of this unit.

The Map Lady!!

Grade 3 students had the opportunity to work with our local "Map Lady- Mrs. P." They learned about cartography, keys, scales, and using a ruler. Each student followed multi-step directions to plot out, connect, label and color a map of Burlington. They came out AMAZING!! The students worked efficiently and did a great job completing this project in about an hour. Focused and thoughtful thinkers! We are keeping them up in our hallway for a bit, but you will be impressed when they come home. :)
